Anyone who fears they are eccentric should see this show. After this fast moving two hour one man epic, you'll realise that whatever your peculiarities are, by comparison, you're sane and probably very boring.
Dave Gorman is truly brilliant and has the audience revelling in his ups and downs, disappointments and triumphs as he embarks haplessly on a really pointless adventure that takes him all over the world. The aim of the game he is playing is to find a 10 link chain of Googlewhacks, each discovered by the creator of the previous one. To the uninitiated, Googlewhacking is an internet-based word game, the aim of which is to type in two words into the Google search engine and find just one page from the 3.3 billion on line.
Gorman in trying to prove that at 31 he is now a grown up, initially rejects a friend's challenge to complete the chain by his 32nd birthday. But a bottle of tequila starts him on the path (or flight) to return to his usual dysfunctional insanity. He was trying to write a novel, but ends up spending the advance on his expensive quest, and does he make it?
He leaves the audience in suspense until the last minute before revealing the answer. Dave Gorman is a brilliant storyteller and he certainly provides himself with enough material without having to embellish any tales. With such staggering coincidences, dramas and twists to his tale there's plenty to entertain the most demanding audience. Dave Gorman;s friends must have a wicked sense of humour to challenge him to embark on a pointless games but maybe they just know the rest of us sometimes need to escape the real world and laugh out loud.
