Reviews

Rodents rocked The Tivoli on Saturday confirming the widely held opinions that The Hamsters are the best unsigned band on the live music circuit.

They are certainly one of the hardest working bands around, celebrating 16 years of continuous gigging all over the country, notching up 3,250 appearances and a selection of CDs, videos and t-shirts which any mainstream band would be proud of.

Slogans such as - "Don't be a Lemming be a Rodent Rocker - are proudly worn on the chests of many ardent fans. The Hamsters are rightly famous for their renditions of numbers by Hendrix and ZZ Top. But don't be fooled into thinking they are just another tribute band. Slim on lead guitar, Zsa Zsa on bass guitar and Otis on drums combien superb musicianship with humour and energy.

They demonstrated in the first and third sets that they can write as well as the play with a selection of their self-penned songs including Just Wanna Make Love To You, a firm favourite with the many devoted fans who packed into the theatre. Sets two and three showed exactly why The Hamsters are so well loved , with their perfect version of all the Hendrix classicsincluding Purple Haze. All Along the Watchtower and Red House interspersed with ZZ Top favourites such as Gimme All Your Lovin'. It was hard to imagine how the finale could top the rest of the gig but the best had been left till last.

Slim and Zsa Zsa walked through the audience to the back of the theatre with their guitars lit up and radio miked, exchanged instruments and strolled back to the stage without missing a single note or beat, finishing the set with Slim on drums, Otis on bass and Zsa Zsa on lead guitar, all to rapturous applause.

I'm sure the everyone who was at The Tivoli will agree - the rodents rock!
