Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, both born to wealth and position, are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. So begins a unique romantic friendship, kept alive through delicately warm correspondence, destined to last for almost half a century. Funny and tragic, this is a love story with a difference – a play about two people who, whilst physically separated, are brought together by candid communication and shared confidences, nostalgic memories, missed opportunities, the hopes, dreams, defeats and disappointments that have passed between them, all of which lead to a deep closeness as only true lovers can have.

Written by A R Gurney and critically acclaimed by both professionals and audiences and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this production is brought to the Tivoli by The Group Theatre Company.
